Joyful Noise: Happy New Year 2025!

By Pastor Naomi Mithcell

Some people are more than ready to cross over to a new year! Just like birthdays, you really don’t feel any different the next day. The mind can play tricks on you in believing it will be different. We put off until tomorrow things that need to be attended to now. See, tomorrow never comes. We must realize the future is behind us and tomorrow may never come for some. Today is the day, now is the time to do the things you need to do. Procrastination is a bummer! It just prolongs things. We have all been there and done that countless times. Sometimes, we need to give ourselves a good pep talk, encouraging ourselves to get up and get moving. Many will make New Year’s Resolutions just to be disappointed again after a few days or weeks or months. We set ourselves up for disappointment so many times.

In whatever we do, as children of God, the Bible tells us to run this race with patience. Patience is a fruit of the Spirit. Patience is a virtue that so many of us have need of. We live in a world where everyone wants everything like “now”!  You pull up at the drive through window for your favorite hamburger meal or chicken meal picturing it being handed to you within two minutes in the little bag, all hot and ready to devour. You are very disappointed when you pull out cold fries!

What do we expect this life to be? Like the drive through where nothing is truly homemade? Rushing through life is enough to wear down the human spirit. No wonder we feel a mess physically, mentally and emotionally let alone spiritually.

If we truly want life to be good, then we must do it God’s way. The Bible tells us to do all things in moderation. The Bible tells us if we want perfect peace then we are to keep our minds stayed on Jesus. The Word tells us to cast all our cares upon Jesus for He cares for us. The Word says, “I am the God that healeth thee.”  I could list several pages of promises made to us from the Bible.

The book of Proverbs is filled with much wisdom that we need to walk this walk of life. The Bible says if you lack wisdom, ask me and I will give it to you liberally. It even tells us how to eat, manage our finances, raise children, have peace of mind that passes all understanding and even about joy in our soul that is unspeakable and full of glory. The Word tells us how to receive Jesus and walk in His Word as the way, the truth and the life. Wow!!  So, patience will surely bear fruit in your life if you do life God’s’ way.

Stop the crazy life that is consuming you today. Pull that Bible out, dust if off, and get into it everyday searching for all the treasures that has been there in plain sight. Start your day with Jesus. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you in all you do. End your day with Jesus. Sleep in His care every night. I guarantee you will wake up fresh and ready to be fruitful each morning. Jesus is your strength, and He said I will never leave you nor forsake you. So don’t give great attention to the things you can’t change, hand them over to Jesus who is our burden bearer.

In Isaiah 9:6, Isaiah prophesied seven hundred years before Jesus was born saying, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.”

How can you be a failure daily when you have a true relationship with the Wonderful, Counsellor, mighty God, everlasting Father and the Prince of Peace!!

Forget the long list of New Year’s Resolutions that only frustrate you year after year. Just plan on having a closer intimate relationship with Jesus filling yourself up daily reading and meditating on the Word of God along with prayer. You can start living your best life one day at a time. Patience pays off!  Mark Hankins said, “Repetition is the watering process for revelation knowledge,” (Ephesians 1:17-23). Amen! So be it!
