Grayson Gallery’s Final Friday Art Walk this weekend

The Grayson Gallery & Art Center, Inc. is proud to offer up a second look at the “Celebrate the Earth, Appalachia” art show and sale for the monthly F!nal Fr!days Art Walk in May.

The big doors will be open from 6 to 9 pm on Friday, May 28 as part of Grayson Memory Days, in celebration of the popular community homecoming event’s 50 years.

Awards of $50 each were given out to winners during the opening reception on April 30th as follows: Peoples’ Choice (by popular vote) went to Allison Elkins for her colored pencil drawing entitled “Fonz”; the Brandon Click Memorial went to Shayne Sigmon for his etching “Beauty of the Body” and the GGAC Board Choice was Kaylee Mabry’s “Screaming Girl”, a graphite drawing.

May, 2021 also marks the GGAC’s Ten Year Anniversary and the public is invited to stop by during the evening for birthday cake and a cup of coffee (while it lasts).

In addition to the 75 pieces on display, the GGAC Artist Market will be open for additional art in various mediums and sales of up to 50 percent off. There will be house music, slide shows, and videos of past arts events shown throughout the evening.

Visitors in town will have lots to do all weekend long during the free Memory Days festivities. Folks are invited to take a stroll downtown to enjoy all the bands performing on the main stage on Friday evening and will want visit food and retail vendors set up along Main Street, explore unique shopping opportunities and more.

Check local ads and schedules for Memory Days across a multitude of media outlets and be sure grab a brochure – available at the gallery – for a full listing of activities and events. The gallery will also be open on Saturday, May 29 from 10 am to 2 pm.

While this monthly GGAC event is free to the public as always, donations are much appreciated. In fact, with the gallery’s crowdfunding campaign underway via “The Local Crowd” (with technical and staff support from Amy Williams of the Mountain Association in Berea, Kentucky) all funds given at “the door” will be matched for up to $500.00 by a generous donor. This effort is the first public appeal for funding by the Grayson Gallery & Art Center, Inc., a 501c3 for social profit corporation.

The $6,000 goal of the fund drive is earmarked for “expanding and enhancing” current arts programs; funds will help in supporting participating artists, enable more focus on the Artist Market and increasing art sales, and provide additional arts education programs and various supplies for children and adults as well as an overall increased activity for marketing and community outreach.

With live music and various performing arts growing in popularity locally, enhanced stage lighting and sound equipment are also a much-needed purpose for raising funds. A look ahead will find that the gallery and its programs will be more sustainable and poised for growth, thanks to the donations being made.
