A Morehead man is behind bars in Carter County this week following a shooting incident in Olive Hill over the weekend.
According to a report from the Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 14, they received a call at approximately 11 p.m. on Sunday evening, December 17, from Carter County 911. That call stated a Jonathan Bowling and a Paul Hensley had been engaged in a verbal confrontation at a home along U.S. 60 in Olive Hill which escalated.
According to the KSPās preliminary investigation, during the course of the duoās verbal altercation Hensley drew and discharged a firearm in the direction of Bowling, striking him several times in the right shoulder. Bowling was transported to the hospital for treatment, and police obtained a search warrant for the residence. During the execution of the search warrant the police located firearms as well as narcotics.
Hensley was arrested, and transported to the Carter County Detention Center where he is currently being housed.
Hensley, a convicted felon, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, third degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and attempted murder in the shooting of Bowling.
Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon is a Class D Felony ā Class C if it is a handgun ā each punishable by fines of up to $10,000, and up to five years, but no less than one year, in prison for a Class D felony, and five to ten years for a Class C felony.
Third degree possession of a controlled substance is a Class A misdemeanor, carrying a maximum sentence of one year and a maximum fine of $500. Possession of drug paraphernalia is also a misdemeanor.
Attempted murder is a Class B Felony, carrying a prison sentence of ten to twenty years, and fine of up to $10,000.
The case remains under the investigation of Trooper Ethan Hartsell, with the KSP Post 14.
KSP was assisted in their investigation and response by deputies with the Carter County Sheriffās Department, and Carter County EMS.
