Olive Hill police chief steps down

After 20 years, Hall says time for a change

Olive Hill police chief Bobby Hall announced on Monday morning that he was stepping down from his role as chief of the Olive Hill police department, effective immediately. He said his duties will be filled by other members of his staff, including assistant chief R.D. Porter, until the mayor and council agree on a new person to fill the role. He said he will continue to serve in another capacity with the police department for the time being.
While Hall indicated what he believed his new role would be, the mayor’s office could not confirm his role at this time. City clerk Chimila Hargett noted that, by city ordinance, all such media announcements must be managed through the mayor’s office. She said while the city would release an official statement on Hall in the coming week, in adherence with the timeline laid out in the city ordinances, she could confirm Hall was no longer serving as chief. She also confirmed that Hall was still employed by the police department.

Hall – who has filed to run for the county Judge Executive position in the next election – cited his focus on the upcoming campaign, and his intention to focus on family commitments, including time with his grandchildren, in the interim as motivating factors in his decision to step down.
