Grayson’s annual Memory Days weekend could almost be called the Grayson Memory Days Music Festival this year, with their deep and varied entertainment lineup. That lineup includes American Idol participant Corey Hedge and the Voice alum Holly Forbes.
Events kick off on Thursday, May 25, with vendors and family friendly activities beginning at 5 p.m. – including inflatables and a rock climbing wall, a dunking booth, and a Memory Cruise.
Before the live music, there are also dance recitals from Center Stage Studio, at 6:30, and from Dance with Hope Studio at 7:15, in the Merchant’s Parking Lot, and a poetry reading from the Carter County Poetry Society at the Grayson Gallery at 7 p.m.
The live music on this first night begins at 8 p.m. with Levi Fields on the Main Street Stage.
Fields is followed by Fletcher Stone at 9 p.m.
This isn’t the end of the musical entertainment for the weekend though. Friday night Hedge, the American Idol featured country crooner, opens things up at 6:15, followed by From the Hills at 7:15, and Dustin Burchett at 8:15 p.m.
The following evening, Saturday, features the Voice favorite Forbes. She takes the stage at 7:30 following Kaleb Mullins & The Witness at 6:15. Mullins and Forbes are followed by The No Joke Jimmys at 8:30.
Sunday is bluegrass day, with the Mike Phillips Memorial Bluegrass Show. Music on the WGOH Stage starts at 3 p.m. and features Harvest Time, Col. Dreyden Gordon, Timber & Nails, Hammertowne, Larry Cordle, and the Isaacs.
The bluegrass show is brought to the community courtesy Rudy Fest, and folks are encouraged to bring their own seating and enjoy the day.
Other events include a gem mining station at Walking on Sunshine and vendors at the Blue Goose building throughout the weekend, along with inflatables, dunking booth, and a climbing wall.
Friday also features an ice cream social at Bayless Presbyterian from 6 – 8 p.m. and the student art show at the Grayson Gallery during the same time period.
Saturday’s non-music events include the Relay for Life 5K from 7 – 9 a.m., a cornhole tournament starting at 8 that morning, the Vernon Cecil Fast Pitch Softball Tournament at Grayson Sports Park at 9 a.m. as well as the Memory Days Car Show, the Dog Jog at 10, and the Friends of the Library Book Sale from 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Batman and the Heroes for Higher will also conduct a meet and greet at 11:30 at the gazebo in Veterans Park.
The parade, celebrating our region’s musical heritage with the theme of “Pickin’, Singin’ and Rememberin’” begins at 1 p.m.
If you have your own musical talent to showcase, you can do that during the talent show, on the WGOH stage at 3:30 p.m. featuring guest judge Holly Forbes.
Sunday features a softball tournament at the sports park and the second annual Kiwanis Jeep Show, in addition to the weekend long events.
Thursday night’s music entertainment is sponsored by Inflation Station and Bestie’s Beauty Bar. Friday is brought to us by Larry Doucet and Blue Sky Telecom. Saturday is courtesy of Michelle Wilhoit State Farm Insurance, and Sunday by Rudy Fest.
