Vernon Gilbert, age 81, of Olive Hill, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2025, at his residence.
He was born September 13, 1943, in Cabin Creek, West Virginia, a son of the late William Ernest and Lula Dean Gilbert.
Vernon was a member of Bairtown Church of God and loved going to church. He enjoyed visiting with friends and spending time with grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Ammie Burton; seven brothers, Woodrow Gilbert, Elwood Gilbert, Elmo Gilbert, Ernest Gilbert Jr., Richard Gilbert, Delmar Gilbert, Elmer Gilbert; two sisters, Ona Gehrig and Evelyn Sparks.
Vernon is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Maudie Lee Holbrook Gilbert; three sons, John (Leisa) Gilbert, Steve (Sandra) Gilbert all of Olive Hill, Kentucky, Randy (Billie) Gilbert of Nicholasville, Kentucky; 2 grandchildren whom he raised as his own, Landon Lewis and Eathen Lewis; 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; one brother Homer Gilbert of Ohio; two sisters, Naoma Lawhorn and Gerline Mays both of Ohio, along with many other family and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Hwy 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky, with Brother John Gilbert, Brother Justin Wagoner, Brother Elijah Wagoner and Johnny Moore officiating. Burial will follow in McKinney Cemetery in Olive Hill, Kentucky.
Friends may visit from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Saturday, March 29, 2025 and after 9 a.m., Sunday, March 30, 2025, until the service hour at Globe Funeral Chapel.
