Walter W. J. Cox, age 85, of Olive Hill, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Tuesday, June 10,1941, in Carter County, a son of the late Walter Cox and Truman and Alberta Jaynes Cox Kiser
Walter enjoyed watching westerns, listening to bluegrass music, hunting, sitting on the porch, spending time outdoors and with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Darlene Johnson Cox and one sister, Rena Porter.
W.J. is survived by one son, Walter Jason (Jessica) Cox Jr. of Clay City, Kentucky; two daughters, Beverly Joanne (Jerry) Minor of Olive Hill, Kentucky, Deborah Renee (Douglas) Steadman of Hitchins, Kentucky; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, along with many other family and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, October 9, 2026, at Globe Funeral Chapel 17277 West US Hwy 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky, with Brother R.D. Porter and Brother Terry Dean officiating. Burial will follow in Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.
Friends may visit after 11:30 a.m., Friday, October 9, 2026, until the service hour at the funeral home.
Zach Thompson, Travis Tackett, Dawson Witt, Tyler Cox, Jerry Minor and R.D. Porter will serve as pallbearers.
