The West Carter Comets have had an undeniably rough start to their season, but the Comets team was firing on all cylinders Friday night – turning their luck around and taking advantage of every opportunity to get up on the beleaguered Powell County Pirates for a 50-20 win.
Dwaylon Dean continues to rack up yardage for the Comets, adding 244 yards on 19 attempts, and four touchdowns, to the West Carter numbers.
Kadin Thompson added another 32 yards on two attempts, for a total of 261 yards after QB Hayden Hall’s 15 yards of loss.
What Hall lost in rushing, though, he made up for in passing, adding 164 yards on six completions, including two completions for touchdowns.
Hall connected with Thompson and Isaiah Bond to add 12 points to the 24 points Dean put on the board.
Bond caught two of Hall’s six complete passes for 92 yards, while Thompson caught three of them for 65, and Dean caught a single pass for seven yards gain.
Ethan Bledsoe added 54 yards and another touchdown to the total on a fumble recovery, and Kole Boggs added two points on a safety.
Martin Wyatt connected on all six of his extra-point kicks as well, adding another six points to the Comets’ total.
On defense Peyton Walker led in total tackles with one solo tackle and 12 assists. Bledsoe was arguably the team’s defensive beast, however, with three solo tackles and six assists, including partnering with Derek Williams on a defensive sack and leading in tackles for loss with 1.5 of the teams 3 TFL.
Dean had nine tackles as well, with six solo tackles and three assists, Bond with three and five, Tabor Tackett with two solo and four assist, Trace Rivers with two and four also, Jacob Waddell with one and five, Boggs with one and two, Kale Back with three assists, Williams and Brayden Reynolds each with one solo and two assists – including Williams sack assist with Bledsoe, Thompson and Hunter Reffitt with two assists each, Ellis Kidwell with one assist, and Landon Callihan with one solo tackle.
The Comets take on the East Carter Raiders this Friday, at East Carter, in the Battle for the Barrel.
