GGAC prepares for Women in the Arts show

The Grayson Gallery & Art Center (GGAC) has issued a call for female artists who want to participate in their March show highlighting Women in the Arts.

The annual event, organized to coincide with Women’s History Month, features a variety of artwork, in various mediums, from female artists. In addition to visual art, the event has in the past included work from prominent local female musicians.

Gallery director Dan Click said the event is one of the many ways the gallery attempts to highlight the unique artistic and cultural contributions of our region’s diverse populations.

While women artists are welcome to contribute to any of the gallery’s shows, and do so with regularity – two of the three prize winners at last month’s Peace & Love Art Show were female – the March show allows the gallery to shine a special light on their contributions, Click explained.

Women who wish to participate in the show may submit up to three pieces each, in any medium and on any subject. Submission drop-offs will be accepted on two dates only, Saturday, March 25 and Monday March 27, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the gallery, 301 East Third Street in Grayson.

There is no entry fee, but work must come ready to hang or display. It should also feature the artists name, the title of the piece, the medium or media used, and a price if it is available for purchase. This information can be displayed on the back of the piece, or on an attached label if it is a 3D or sculptural piece.

Cash award of $50 each are awarded in three different categories; People’s Choice, as chosen by popular vote, GGAC Board Choice, as chosen by the board, and the Brandon Click Memorial Award, chosen by Dan and the Click family.

An artist registration form must also be completed and returned by email or dropped off along with submissions. A digital version of that form is available by contacting Click via email or by messaging the Grayson Gallery & Art Center via Facebook.

Click said that due to the expected response, and the need to hang the display prior to the Final Friday show, drop off dates will not be extended beyond the March 27 cut-off for submissions.

The Women in the Arts show will be on the final Friday of the month, March 31, from 6 – 9 p.m. at the GGAC.

The GGAC has also announced they are seeking volunteers to host open hours for the gallery space. In addition they have announced plans for classes and workshops for adults in the near future. Other classes in mixed media, ceramics, and photography are also currently under consideration. Contact GGAC director Dan Click for more details at graysongallery@gmail.com, or look for them on Facebook and Instagram.
