MANSFIELD, Ohio –More than six decades after leaving Olive Hill with his family, Mansfield author Willie Davis has now released three Olive Hill People – Stories-Samuel and the Cave Soldier – Victoria and the Twins – and Isaac Returns. This three-story Kindle series was inspired by the early settlement of Carter County Kentucky during the War of 1812.
“When my family left Olive Hill for Mansfield in 1959, we became one of nearly 400,000 Kentuckians who moved north after the war looking for work,” Davis said. “Years later I realized many of us had carried our memories with us, but we’d left our history behind. I wanted to bring that history home. Olive Hill has a wonderful creation story that few people realize. I became determined to tell it.
Although Davis previously told this story in his two-volume historical novel Olive Hill, he recognized that the three Kindle stories series introduces that same history in shorter, inexpensive editions while preserving the people, places, and events that inspired the original novels.
Set in the rugged hills of northeastern Kentucky during the War of 1812, the three-story series follows Samuel Reed as he helps build a frontier community where courage, sacrifice, and family shape the future. As war spreads across the young nation, Samuel faces love, betrayal, devastating loss, and the responsibility of leading those who depend on him. Spanning three interconnected stories, these historical sagas celebrates the ordinary people whose quiet determination helped build early America.
