UPDATED TUESDAY MORNING: An Olive Hill man wanted in connection with an officer-involved shooting is in custody after surrendering to an Olive Hill police officer in the early morning hours of Tuesday morning, following an incident with Grayson police the day before. Christopher Carpenter, age 34, was booked into the Carter County Detention Center at 3:19 a.m. Tuesday morning, almost 23 hours after an incident in Grayson led that department to issue an appeal to the public for assistance in locating the suspect.

The Grayson Police Department began their Monday morning asking the public for any information regarding the presumably armed and dangerous suspect, who was still at large at the time. The request came after an incident at approximately 4:30 a.m. Monday morning resulted in an officer-involved shooting.

According to a release from Grayson police chief Tony Cantrell, issued Monday afternoon, the incident began with a routine traffic stop in the 200 block of South Carol Malone Boulevard. Shortly after the first officer initiated contact a second officer appeared on the scene. While conducting the traffic stop Carpenter is alleged to have intentionally struck one of the officers with his vehicle. The second officer then fired several rounds into the vehicle before the suspect was able to flee the scene.

The department reported that the unnamed officer did sustain some injuries during the incident, and was transported to KDMC where he was treated and released. Neither of the officers have had their names released by the department at press time.

Carpenter is currently housed in the Carter County Detention Center on charges including wanton endangerment in the first degree – police officer, resisting arrest, fleeing or evading police in the first degree (motor vehicle), attempted murder of a police officer, and failure to appear.
