Mr. Claude Ennis “Hawkeye” Erwin, age 100, of Olive Hill, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2022 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Thursday, September 29, 1921 in Illinois to the late Oscar and Carrie Underwood Erwin.
Claude proudly served his country in the United States Navy, as a 1st class Petty Officer where he earned four bronze stars. He loved going to church, hunting, fishing, and watching old westerns on TV.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Olive Kiser Erwin; one brother, Talmadge Erwin; one sister, Jewell Bays and one grandchild, Rachel Frary.
He is survived by one son, Danny Thomas (Susan) Erwin of Olive Hill, Kentucky; two daughters, Claudia (Randy) Blevins and Connie (John) Hillman both of Olive Hill, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Jayla Brooking, Carie Tomolonis, Tara Lyons, Danny Erwin Jr., Will Sartaine, Meghan Hillman; eleven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and a host of other family friends who will sadly mourn his passing.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill, Kentucky, with Brother Gary Sparks and Brother J.C Bond officiating. Burial will follow in the Garvin Ridge Cemetery.
Will Sartaine, Danny Erwin Jr., Scott Porter, Jeremy Brooking, Jackson Brooking, Jonah Brooking, Trevor Callahan, and Colton Lyons will serve as pallbearers.
Ed Porter will serve as honorary pallbearer.
