1939-2021
Mr. Joseph D. “Joe” Kitchen, age 81, of Grayson, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord, Friday morning, July 9, 2021, at Kingsbrook Lifecare Center in Ashland, Kentucky.
He was born September 28, 1939, in Carter, Kentucky, a son of the late James Logan and Elizabeth McDavid Kitchen.
Joe was a member of Lakeroad Freewill Baptist Church, he was the owner and operator of Kitchen’s Service Station in Grayson, Kentucky for 34 years. He served as Carter County Sheriff from 1978-1982, he then took office as Carter County Judge Executive from 1982-1999. Joe then worked six years for the Kentucky Department of Motor Vehicles. He was a Member of the Masonic Lodge #145, in Grayson, Kentucky, for 54 years. He was also a proud dedicated ambassador and shareholder of Grayson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Grayson, Kentucky.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant sister, Joyce Kitchen.
Joe leaves behind, his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Marshall Kitchen; three sons, Roger (Pam) Kitchen, Mike (Teresa) Kitchen, and Jeff (Gina) Kitchen all of Grayson, Kentucky; one daughter Angie (Paul) Cline of Grayson, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, and one on the way; one brother, Gary (Mary) Kitchen of Grayson, Kentucky; and one sister, Arbutus Blevins of Grayson, Kentucky. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2021, at Grayson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Grayson, Kentucky, with Brother Grant Sammons and Brother David Boggs officiating. Interment will follow in the East Carter Memory Gardens in Grayson, Kentucky.
Friends may visit from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2021, at Grayson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 49 McCoy Road, Grayson, Kentucky 41143, and after 9 am on Monday until the service hour.
Masonic rites will be conducted 7 pm Sunday, July 11, 2021, by Grayson Masonic Lodge # 145.
Pallbearers will be his six grandsons, Josh Kitchen, Ryan Kitchen, Trey Cline, Alex Kitchen, Trevor Cline, and Isaiah Kitchen.
