Michael Gene Sammons, age 69, of Vanceburg, Kentucky entered into rest Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 16, 1954 in Crestline, Ohio.
Mike was of the Baptist Faith. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved the outdoors, jogging, fishing, ginsenging, and looking for herbs and wild orchids. He opened his own herbal store, “Walnut Grove Herbs” to do in his spare time and later on went to write his own book “Backwoods Protasis”.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Lula Mae Williams and stepfather, Fred Williams; his father, Billie Sammons; one sister, Patricia L. Swartz; sister-in-law, Sharon Sammons.
Mike is survived by the love of his life, Diana Rayburn Sammons; three daughters, Rhonda (Randy) May of Olive Hill, Kentucky, Mandy Webb of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, and Melissa (Matthew) May of Sandy Hook, Kentucky; two brothers, Bill Sammons of Alabama, Timothy Sammons of Mansfield, Ohio; one sister, Sue (Roger) Wirick of Mansfield, Ohio; one brother in law, Edward Swartz of Mansfield, Ohio; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He leaves behind many other relatives and friends that will greatly miss him.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, December 22, 2023, at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Hwy 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky with Brother Bobby Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Sammons Cemetery on Webb Ridge in Olive Hill, Kentucky.
Friends may visit after 6 p.m., Thursday, December 21, 2023, and after 9 a.m., Friday, December 22, 2023, until the service hour at Globe Funeral Chapel.
Randy May, Daniel May, Matthew May, Jesse May, Bryce Keeton and Sam Jenkins will serve as pallbearers.
Donnie Fannin will serve as honorary pallbearer.
