William “Bill” Gibson, age 81, of Sandy Hook, a well-known business man, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at his residence.
He was born November 13, 1940, at Middle Fork in Elliott County, and was a son of the late Virgil Gibson and Edna Olivia Crawford Gibson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Leonard Gibson, Judy Gibson Brickey, and Ronald “Mustard” Gibson; a nephew, Shawn Gibson; and a stepdaughter, Tana Pennington.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Teresa (Scott) Cox; two special grandchildren, Wade (Bethany) Conn and Gracie Cox; his significant other of 10 years, Pam Pennington; children that he loved as his own, Barb (Kecil) Smith, David (Becky) Boggs, Loretta (Allen) Porter, Thelma (Rocky) Brickey, Ronnie (Kim) Boggs, and Lisa (Brian) Howard; 15 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as other extended family, friends, and a special cat “Pud”.
He attended Elliott County High School and Berea College. Bill began working as a teenager hauling house coal in a ton truck and also worked at Wright-Patterson Airport. Bill owned and operated several businesses during his lifetime including packaged beverage sales, a coal company in the 70’s, Midway Grocery in Wrigley, Middle Fork Grocery, Sunken Grocery, T’s Quick Stop, 7 & 32 Auto Sales and Trailers, all in Elliott County, and Southside 7 Trailer Sales in Grayson.
Bill was a very dedicated and hard worker and enjoyed buying and selling real estate and especially spending time with his family. He will be remembered with love and greatly missed.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Jason Ison officiating. Burial will follow in Elliott County Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Scott Cox, Wade Conn, Brian Howard, Allen Porter, Ronnie Boggs, Kecil Smith, and Dalton Blevins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Craft, Jamie Simmons, Chad Adkins, Bill Wagner, Dean Greene, Jim Bentley, Clay Pennington, Jimmy Blair, John Greene, Cody Justice, John Justice, and Red Rock Click.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, September 29, 2022, and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
