Ms. Doris Truitt Smith, Age 95, of Vanceburg, Kentucky passed away Sunday March 21, 2021 with her family by her side at the Vanceburg Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.
Doris was born in Garrison, Kentucky July 14th, 1925 to the late Thomas S. and Nellie McCleese Truitt. Doris graduated from Lewis County High School Class of 1943. She also was a cheerleader and member of the Glee Club. She attended the University of Kentucky College in Ashland, Kentucky where she earned an Associate degree. Doris also worked for the rationing board during World War II. Her husband Dr. Karl H. Smith owned and operated New Boston Pharmacy from 1950-1956.
Doris, married her husband Karl in 1944 in which then he was attending medical school after which he started his private practice in Olive Hill, Kentucky in 1961 where Doris worked as the office bookkeeper. She was a member of the Olive Hill Garden Club for several years. She also served as president of the Olive Hill Band Boosters from 1970-1972. Doris had dual membership in the Order of Eastern Star in Olive Hill and Vanceburg. She also worked for the VISTA Group in Morehead for many years. She was past president of the Lewis County homemakers. Doris was a member of the First Baptist Church Lady’s group in Vanceburg where she participated in various community events.
Left to cherish Doris’s memories is a daughter- Libby Smith of Garrison, Ky.
Sister- Phyllis (Ernie) Coburn and a brother- James (Sally) Truitt both of Versailles, Kentucky. Many nieces and nephews survive who will also mourn her passing.
Preceded in death beside her parents was her husband Dr. Karl H. Smith in August 30, 2008.
Visitation will be Saturday March 27th, 2021 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at the Gaydos Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Saturday March 27th, 2021 @ 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Dr. Howard Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Cemetery Quincy, Ky.
