George Russell Knipp Jr.

1951-2022

Mr. George Russell Knipp Jr., age 71, of Russell, Kentucky, passed away Monday, December 12, 2022, at University of Kentucky Bluegrass Hospice Care Center, in Lexington, Kentucky.

He was born August 29, 1951 to Juanita Henderson Knipp of Olive Hill, Kentucky and the late George Russell Knipp, Sr.

George was a Combat Controller in the Air Force where he served as Staff Sargent. He was retired from CSX Railroad after serving over 40 years as a railroad engineer. He enjoyed fishing, panning for gold and silver, reading, watching movies and listening to music. He could play four different instruments.

In addition to his father he was preceded in death by one son, George Russell “Rusty” Knipp III, one sister, Kathy Menix.

Along with his mother, he is survived by his wife of 50 years, Deborah Diane Williams Knipp of Russell, Kentucky; one son, Zack Knipp of Lexington, Kentucky; one daughter, Katrina (Matt) Mitchell of Ashland, Kentucky; five brothers, Mike Knipp of Olive Hill, Kentucky, John Paul (Toni) Knipp of Mansfield, Ohio, Chester Knipp of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Steve Knipp of Olive Hill, Kentucky and Charlie (Jenny) Knipp of Ashland, Kentucky; two sisters, Vicki (Kenny) Brown and Connie (Randy) Offill all of Olive Hill, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Kentucky with Brother Darryl Garvin officiating. Burial will follow in the Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill, Kentucky.

Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Kentucky and after 9 a.m. on Saturday until the service hour.

Matt Mitchell, Austin Mitchell, Wade Mitchell, Andrew Knipp, Chris Brown and Chaston Knipp will serve as pallbearers.
