In Loving Memory of Joseph Carl “Joey” Back. With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph Carl Back, 50, of Olive Hill Kentucky.
On August 19, 2026, at UK St Claire Medical Center. Joseph left this world far too soon, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, love, and stories that will continue to be cherished by all who knew and loved him. Born on January 20, 1976, Joseph was the beloved son of Johnny Back and the late Jody Back. He also leaves behind his father’s fiancée, Becky Williams.
Joseph was preceded in death by his mother, Jody Back; his sister, Jessica Ann Back; his paternal grandparents, George and Anna Back; and his maternal grandparents, Nathan and Latonia Glover.
Above all else, Joseph was a loving father. His greatest pride and joy were his two children, Karianna (CJ) Branham of Morehead, Kentucky, and Kale Back of Olive Hill, Kentucky. His adopted son Daniel Lemons of Mt. Sterling, KY. The mother of his children Karla Back, also his faithful dog, Daisy.
Joey had a lifelong passion for dirt track racing. The sound of engines, the excitement of race day, and the feeling of being at the track were a huge part of who he was. He raced at many tracks throughout Kentucky and Ohio, traveling as far as Florida to pursue the sport he loved.
Racing wasn’t just something he did-it was a part of his identity. Joseph had a rare talent with his hands. There wasn’t much he couldn’t build, repair, or figure out. He built many dirt track race cars and took great pride in his work. His knowledge, creativity, and determination amazed those around him. But his greatest gift was not just what he could build—it was the way he used his talents to help others.
Joey leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and a heart that cared deeply for others. Although his time here was far too short, the impact he made on his family, friends, racing community, and everyone who crossed his path will never be forgotten. As those who loved him look back on his life, they will remember the man who could build anything, fix almost anything, and who was always willing to help someone in need. The checkered flag may have fallen on Joey’s race here on earth, but his legacy will continue to run forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
