The East Carter’s girl’s tennis team continued a solid season with a 7-2 road victory over Rowan County on Friday afternoon at Morehead State University.
In singles action, Andrea Ferguson defeated Alana Kidd 6 – 1, Emersyn Elliott beat Mary Melahan 6 – 0, Ava Oney defeated McKinsey Utterback 7 – 5, and Karli Boyd defeated Kami Clark 6 – 1, while Anna Oney lost to Natalie Northcutt 8 – 0 and Megan Sexton lost to Addison Hargis 6 – 3.
The Lady Raiders swept three doubles matches with wins from duos Andrea Ferguson and Emersyn Elliott, Ava Oney and Megan Sexton, and Emma Perkins and Addison Bond.
However, the boy’s team didn’t fare as well, with the Raiders falling 7 – 1 to the Vikings.
Wilson Tomaselli picked up the lone win in boys singles play by defeating Jacob Campbell 6-1.
Tanner Osborne was beaten by Chris Gray 6 – 0, Lane Moudy was beaten by Carter Owens 6 – 1, Colin Combs lost to Logan Lucas 6 – 1, and Aiden Bledsoe lost to Eli Hargis 6 – 0.
East Carter’s first doubles team Tanner Osborne and Wilson Tomaselli were defeated by Campbell and Owens 8 – 5.
In second doubles, the duo of Lane Moudy and Colin Combs fell to James and Mantooth 8 – 2.
EKC Tennis Tournament
In Wednesday’s EKC Tennis Tournament Semi-Finals at Morehead State University, the road to the championships ended for both the Raiders and Lady Raiders.
In girls’ singles action, Anna White (Russell) beat Lady Raider Karli Boyd 8 – 2.
Representing the Raiders in boys’ singles play, Lane Moudy fell to Chris Gray (Rowan Co.) 8-0.
Carter Cassidy and Whitlock (Russell) beat Tanner Osborne and Wilson Tomaselli 8 – 2, while Andrea Ferguson and Emersyn Elliott lost to Leah Rupell and Maddie Whitlock (Russell) 8 – 2 in doubles play.
The Raiders and Lady Raiders return to the court on Friday, April 28 for 62nd district action against Morgan County.
