Fredrick Deforest Horton

1936-2022

Fredrick Deforest “Fred” Horton, 86, of Grayson, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2022 at Carter Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following an extended illness.

Fred was born August. 23, 1936 in Grayson, a son of the late John Travis and Della Dinkens Horton. He was a retired core driller, working for various companies over the years, but most recently with Rhodes and Associates of Lexington. He was a former member of the Church of God of Prophecy and was of the Pentecostal faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Addie Mae Horton; a son, Michael Wayne; three sisters, Gladys Burton, Brenda Pyles and Myrtle Adams; three brothers, Gene, Joe, and Dallas Horton.

He is survived by a brother, James “Jim” Horton of Grayson; a sister, Bonnie Felty of Grayson; two sons, Freddy (Thresea) Horton and Harold (Jami) Horton, both of Grayson; two daughters, Cheryl (Charles) Wagoner and Drema (Ben) Steele of Grayson; five grandchildren, Dustin (Bonnie) Owens, Kristin (Tyler) Fleming, Skylar Horton, Ashley (Willie) McGlone and Em Steele, all of Grayson; four great-grandchildren, Dustin, Jr., Jack, Harley and Leah.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 26, 2022, 2:00 p.m. at the Sparks Funeral Home by Kyle Burchett and Caleb Wilburn. Burial will be in the Horton Family Cemetery at Fultz.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Owens, Dustin Owens, Jr., Tyler Fleming, Tim Hammon, Willie McGlone, and Randy Seagraves. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Steele and Charles Wagoner.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 25, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
