Rick Boyd Spence, age 62, of Olive Hill, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022 at his residence, after a very long battle with cancer.
He was born Sunday, August 21, 1960 to Sandra Colleen Cook Spence Smith of Elliott County, Kentucky and the late Marvin Lee Spence.
Rick worked his early life at Harold White Lumber Yard. Thanks to all his coworkers at the Carter County Board of Education and bus garage, Rick was set to retire in March 2023, as one of the most beloved school bus drivers in Carter County history. He loved the Lord and was a Christian Man, he attended the Laurel Point Christian Holiness Church. He loved supporting West Carter Athletics and driving the sports teams to the games. He enjoyed trading pocket knives and frequenting various flea markets an trade days. He loved spending time with family and especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his mother Colleen and his stepfather, Paul Smith, Rick is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Nellie Mae Butler Spence; one son, Tyler (Ella) Spence of Wellington, Kentucky; one daughter, Sasha (Mike) Hart of Olive Hill, Kentucky; three granddaughters, Autumn Spence, Lily Spence and Quincy Hart; two sisters, Risa (Nick) Elam of Morehead, Kentucky, Holly (David) Price of Soldier, Kentucky; one special friend that could always make him laugh, Tammy England, along with many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Kentucky with his son in law, Mike Hart and Brother Jerry Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in the Bowen Chapel Cemetery on US 60.
Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, December 19, 2022 and after 9 a.m. until the service hour on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Globe Funeral Chapel Kentucky, 17277 West Highway US 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky 41164.
David Price, Spencer Price, Taylor Roe, Derek Brown, Mark Burton and Michael Hart will serve as pallbearers.
Tom Carter, Roger Coburn and Terry Horsley will serve as honorary pallbearers.
